Square Luís de Camões

Between the ecclesiastical city and the laborious city, Praça Luís de Camões – the old Old Square, as the people of Guarda call it – has been providing the most central and busy public space, secularly concentrating the presence of the religious power, the See, and the civil power, the building of the former Town Hall, dated 1570,  with administrative, political and judicial functions. Around these imposing buildings one can admire the noble houses which belonged to wealthy families: Solar dos Póvoas, where the Welcome Center - Guarda is located, as well as the 16th century architectural set known as the Edifício dos Balcões. .
