Verdugal knives

Combining the ancient art of ironworking with aesthetics and modern functionality, cutlery continues to play a fundamental role in our daily lives. In the town of Verdugal, in the parish of Pêra do Moço, there are two cutlery companies. - The cutlery company Adelino Pires & Filhos Lda was founded in 1932 by Adelino Pires, when he was just 20 years old. Adelino was born and raised in Verdugal in a family of cutlery craftsmen. He learnt the craft from his father Albino Pires (a blacksmith) and from his paternal grandfather. In 1985, his sons went from employees to partners and the company was renamed Adelino Pires & Filhos Lda.- The cutlery company Ernesto Pires & Filhos, Lda was founded on 8 January 1948 by Ernesto Pires. Albino Pires (a blacksmith) already produced knives and scythes by hand.  The art and know-how have been preserved to this day, resulting in a range of products (knives, sickles and razors) designed using artisanal methods and carefully selected raw materials. The design of Ernesto Pires & Filhos cutlery respects tradition and art.
