About
Festa da Castanha (Chestnut Festival) is included in the Festivals of Popular Culture of Guarda, a community animation event which is focused in the preservation and enhancement of the endogenous products of the land, in particular, the chestnut, which is Autumn's precious fruit; it also promotes the reforestation of new chestnut trees, in a tribute to this endemic species of the region, for the relevant importance it had over the last generations. This event aims to counter desertification and (re)invent ways to revitalize and promote places by promoting Museu da Castanha (Chestnut Museum), enhancing the local economy and encouraging new producers with the organization of conferences and experiences. The initiative promotes the sale of the products of the land, so sweets and other delicacies linked to this fruit are shown and can be tasted by visitors.
