The Centre for Iberian Studies was the brainchild of Eduardo Lourenço who, on the occasion of Guarda's Eighth Centenary Celebrations in 1999, proposed the creation of a Centre that would contribute to a renewed understanding of the various cultures of the Peninsula and to the study of Iberian Civilisation.Assuming Knowledge, Culture and Cooperation as the structuring pillars of its mission, the CEI's activities have been guided by the implementation of scientific and cultural initiatives in the border territory of the Central Iberian Ria that have established it as a Centre open to innovation, a platform for the transfer of knowledge and a space where cultures meet.Twenty-five years of uninterrupted activities guided by the humanist and universal values dear to its Patron, the CEI (recognised as a Public Utility institution since 2021) continues to pursue its desire, just as it aspired for Guarda, to be a ‘place of dialogue, necessary more than ever’ and the ‘sentinel of a common future for an Iberia that is one of the poles of this Europe where we all want to be’.More information at www.cei.pt
