The architectural set formed by the ancient Episcopal Palace, Seminary and Chapel began being built in early 17th century, under the aegis of the Bishop of Guarda D. Nuno de Noronha.

segundaInserted in the so-called Filipino style, or rather, in the so-called “Estilo Chão”, it displays façades of great austerity, stripped of any decorative elements, except the cornice, where one can admire typical cannon gargoyles. It is a large U-plant architectural set: the Chapel of the Episcopal Palace was built in the centre and it is flanked by two indoor courtyards with access to both the body of the Episcopal Palace (North), and the body of the Seminary (South) where the Museum of Guarda is currently set.
