This village is situated on a hill and belongs to the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, in the municipality and county of Guarda. According to the records of Torre do Tombo in Lisboa, centuries ago there were three farms in this area of Serra da Estrela. The upper farm, where there are still remains of graves and some tiny Arab residential buildings. The middle farm, where the parish of Meios is now located, had the following origins: it was first named the ‘Meia Ágata’ farm, where this semi-precious stone was permanently emphasised, then changed its name to ‘Quinta do Meio’ and finally to ‘Meios’. The lower farm was located where there is now a large farm called ‘Quinta da Alqueidoza’.

In 1653 was built the first chapel, now the parish church. This granite parish church, located at the centre of the village, is of considerable architectural splendour and its altarpiece is the statue of Nossa Senhora da Assunção. This ancient sculpture was exhibited a few years ago at the Guarda Museum as the most perfect and valuable of the surrounding parishes.ITs heritage also includes the Chapel of Mártir S. Sebastião, whose figure is particularly revered during August, when a religious celebration is held in his honour, with the presence of many devoted immigrants. We can also find granite crosses spread throughout the village: the Senhor do Calvário (Lord of Calvary) and small marked stones (Alminhas) featuring a single cross. The patrimony of this parish also includes the parish council building, the elementary school and the Museu de Tecelagem (Weaving Museum). The former weaving factory holds a collection of weaving-related items including traditional handlooms which were once used to manufacture wool blankets. The museum is an interesting educational and exhibiting facility which is well worth visiting.
