The itinerary includes 5 km of existing paths and a 7 km area of crossings, pedestrian walkways and suspended bridges offering a breathtaking scenery with plenty of green paths, dams, waterfalls, streams and mills. The Mondego Walkways belong to the Serra da Estrela Natural Park and the Estrela UNESCO World Geopark. The Itinerary includes geosites such as the Miradouro do Mocho Real (Royal Owl Belvedere), gravel pits and rubble heaps in Alto Mondego as well as traces of the industrial heritage of former woollen or electricity plants in Trinta, testimony to a past linked to the textile industry in this territory, where the famous ‘papa’ wool blanket was originally produced[SMBA1] . But there are also older remains such as a Roman road and a medieval bridge (between Pêro Soares and Mizarela) which is believed to have been built on an already existing bridge from the Roman era. There's a lot to explore and to learn from a site where we can enjoy nature in harmony with human presence throughout the surrounding landscape. The trail is of a medium difficulty, covering a distance of 12 km and duration of approximately 4 hours. A 2-kilometre linear path for people with restricted mobility.
