The EN18 (National Road 18) connects the city of Guarda to Ervidel. It is the second longest national road in Portugal with a total length of 388km.

Along this route you will cross some of Portugal's main national roads, namely the EN2, EN3, EN4 and EN16 in 14 municipalities: Guarda, Belmonte, Covilhã, Fundão, Castelo Branco, Vila Velha de Rodão, Nisa, Portalegre, Estremoz, Évora, Portel, Vidigueira, Beja and Aljustrel. It intersects two of Portugal's Historic Villages: Belmonte and Castelo Novo and also passes very close to three other villages that are well worth the detour: Sortelha, Idanha-a-Velha and Monsanto. The EN18 is the first of four national roads connecting the city of Guarda and Beira Interior (Inland) which are part of the Rotas de Portugal (Routes from Portugal) Project in partnership with SEAT and sponsored by the Historical Villages of Portugal, the different municipalities and the Wine Commissions.
