Pedra Aguda settlement and toponymy for Vila Cortês do Mondego: There is a pointed rock known as Pedra Aguda at Monte Verão. According to an ancient legend, this is where the former village of Cortezinha was founded, originating the toponymy of of Vila Cortês do Mondego.The Priest's Oven: The story goes that in Vila Cortês do Mondego there was a priest who was very fond of his dog. When he heard that the French enemies were approaching, the priest escaped into the hills taking refuge under a cliff. As the troops went past him, they heard a dog barking. Without hesitation, they shot the dog and the priest. That happened on March 22, 1811. This spot became known as the ‘priest's oven’ due to the shape of the hiding place and is marked by a cruciform inscription.Roman Fountain: As the Romans travelled through the Mondego Valley they left their marks in our parish.Cultural Heritage: Public oven, Village square fountain, water fountain.Other points of interest: Vale do Mondego bathing area, AMAS Vila Cortês do Mondego (local organisation), Associação Juvenil de Vila Cortês do Mondego (Vila Cortês do Mondego Youth Association), Clube 97, “3 de Maio” football field.
